Many people know about giving something up for Lent, but it is above all a period of reflection, penitence, and reminding ourselves about the story of Jesus and his passion as we move towards Easter.
If you are new to Christianity or been away for a while, Lent is a great time to come to the faith, as we discover the great and affecting story of how Jesus sacrificed everything for us, and reflect on what that really means. It should be a period of learning for all of us.
It starts with Ash Wednesday. Why not join us for a short service at 6pm on Wednesday 5 March.
After that we move through the Sundays towards Holy Week, in which we celebrate Jesus’s final days in a series of special services, before Easter, the high point of the Church’s year.
It’s a great time to make that special effort, so if you have been thinking about giving church a go – this is a good time to do it. Much better for your soul than just having fewer biscuits.
